Project Description
The Massachusetts Ave. Corridor Project - Phase 1 consists of traffic and streetscape
improvements for the eastern section of Mass. Ave. from the Cambridge line to Pond Lane. The
total length of the project is approximately 5,300 feet (1 mile).
The primary goal for this project is to transform Mass. Ave. from what is mainly a
transportation corridor to a more vibrant and dynamic pedestrian friendly community. The
Design will strive to find an equal measure of fluid traffic flow, adequate parking, landscaping,
and accessibility for pedestrians, cyclists, transit users, and vehicles.
The project is anticipated to include roadway and sidewalk reconstruction; replacement
of existing traffic signals; new signs and pavement markings; landscaping and amenities; and
pedestrian scale lighting primarily located within the East Arlington Business District.
